Hayley Rigby

Occupation: Senior Occupational Therapist and Managing Director of Pilbara Therapy Services.

What are your professional interests/specialities?
I am passionate about the big picture sustainability vision of our community and healthcare in the inclusion and accessibility space, which includes healthcare employee retention and clinical excellence.

Tell us, where are you from and how did you get to be an Occupational Therapist in the Pilbara region?
I was born and bred on Nyoongar country and had the privilege to be relocated to the red dirt of the Pilbara in 2014 when I was an employee with Rio Tinto in the health and safety team. Realising that my dream and purpose as an OT was not in the mining industry, but more aligned to helping those most in need, we opened up a physio clinic and then eventually expanded to where we are today with a full multidisciplinary team. I feel lucky to work with our incredible team and honoured to be invited to support the families and individuals in our community in their healthcare journey.

What do you love about the Pilbara?
I love the connection to nature and country. The simple life and human connections through community. The islands and exploring inland provide an amazing life for our children to grow up in.

Did you always want to be an Occupational Therapist? Why?
I knew I wanted to help people but I was not sure what that looked like. I am a busy soul so I knew that variety in a job was essential. Once I actually understood what an OT did, I got the reassurance that I would love the career, which I do.

What are your passions?
Family, exploring, the ocean, and connecting to nature.

When you aren’t working, where will we find you?
Spending time with my family and friends camping or exploring or sitting around the pizza oven having a cook-up. I also love gardening and travelling.
