Amirah King

Name: Amirah King

Occupation: Pharmacist

What are your professional interests/specialties?
Pharmacy management, Primary Health Care, Over-the-counter medicines support, First aid care, Vaccinations, Sports medicine and Support/Brace fittings for injuries.

Tell us, where are you from and how did you get to be a Pharmacist in the Pilbara region?
I am from the beautiful Tropical far North Queensland- Atherton Tablelands. My husband and I made our way across the country in search of our next adventure. Sam got a job in Karratha, which we had never heard of, but we were so excited to start our new life in Karratha. Pharmacy 777 Karratha had a position available for a Pharmacist as I was about to fly over and I got the job- so it was fate. Once we arrived, we immediately loved it and were welcomed by our work colleagues and friends we made through sports and social activities.

What do you love about the Pilbara?
I love the community, they are so friendly and supportive. Karratha is a special town where most people are from “somewhere else” so everyone is welcoming and it feels like a little family in itself.  There are so many things to do; boating, camping, fishing, socialising, sports. I love the contrasting red dirt and the blue skies.

Did you always want to be a Pharmacist? Why?
YES!! I was one of those people who knew they wanted to be a pharmacist from 11 years old. My Aunty was a pharmacist and I was always interested in science and helping people. Whenever I visited a pharmacy, I always felt it was a wonderful environment to work in and I got a buzz of excitement. Pharmacy is at the forefront of the community and you have a great opportunity to deliver multiple services to the community and offer patient-centered care.

What are your passions?
I love to travel and experience different cultures. I love food and cooking and trying out different recipes/cuisines. I am also very partial to a good TV binge and often have 6 shows on the go.

When you aren’t working, where will we find you?
Socialising with friends, boating or island camping if the weather is good and enjoying some well-deserved couch time.
