Tell us, where are you from and how did you get to be a pysiotherapist in the Pilbara region?
I grew up in the bustling city of Manila in the Philippines. You might wonder why I ended up immigrating to Australia. It all began during the pandemic when I had a realization of upgrading my career skill set and find opportunities to grow. Australia was not initially the first plan but, it was the first country to open opportunities for me. I started in Karratha last year in a private practice and manage to move employment with a not-for-profit organization, Karratha Central Healthcare.

What do you love about the Pilbara?
The moment I stepped off the plane in the Pilbara, I fell in love. It felt like home, enveloping me in a sense of peace that was instantly comforting. The warmth and friendliness of the locals were truly heartwarming—everywhere I turned, people greeted me with a smile and a cheerful “Hello!” What truly captivates me is the strong, tight-knit community spirit that defines this region. Even as a newcomer to Australia, I never felt out of place, especially with my fellow Filipinos who have become like family. The vibrant Filipino community here has made the Pilbara not just a place to live, but a place to thrive.

Did you always want to be a Physiotherapist? Why?
While the straightforward answer might be “No,” my journey took an unexpected turn. I initially planned to continue my studies in medicine, but financial constraints in the Philippines made that path challenging. However, during my final placement at a cardiac specialized hospital, I discovered a passion for physiotherapy. Working in a multidisciplinary setting alongside doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and experienced physiotherapists truly opened my eyes to the field. I dedicated myself to learning and growing, striving to become the best version of myself as a physiotherapist. The journey doesn’t end here—I’m committed to continuous learning, and who knows? The dream of becoming a doctor might still be within reach!

What are your passions?
As cliché as it may sound, my goal is to help people become the best versions of themselves! Growing up, I often went with my mom to work as a medical secretary in an outpatient clinic, where I saw firsthand the incredible impact she had on patients’ lives. Her dedication to making a difference inspired me deeply. Being surrounded by healthcare professionals throughout my life has shaped my passion for this field, fuelling my desire to make a positive impact. As I continue to grow my career, I remain open and enthusiastic about exploring new opportunities that allow me to expand my skills and help others on their journey to wellness!

When you aren’t working, where will we find you?
As a proud islander from the tropical paradise of the Philippines, you’ll often find me soaking up the sun at the beach, where calm and serenity are my best friends. I’m a fan of cozy café vibes, often diving into a good book or simply soaking in the beauty of nature. However, there’s nothing quite like the joy of being at home, whipping up delicious treats and meals for myself and the people I love. Whether it’s beach days or baking adventures, I’m all about finding that perfect balance in life!
