    Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) is a cardiac condition that affects many children and young people in the Pilbara. It is completely preventable, starting with a strep throat or skin sores usually associated with disadvantaged living conditions, and can lead to permanent and irreversible heart valve damage. This disease is most prevalent in Aboriginal young people in our community, with many requiring monthly injections and inevitable heart surgery.
