    27 and 28 March 2021 Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre This Rural Health West conference will concentrate on learnings and effects from the recent disasters that have impacted both Australia and the world and how we can prepare for future adversities. Particular emphasis will be on dealing with the aftermath of natural disasters such as bushfires, floods and of course COVID-19. In 2021, Rural Health West are pleased to formally welcome rural and remote nurses and midwives to the conference and will include relevant sessions and travel support.   • Pilbara Respiratory Workshop

    Health professionals are invited to attend our upcoming Pilbara Respiratory Workshop; a collaborative project between Asthma WA, Cystic Fibrosis WA and Dr Pam Laird from Telethon Kids Institute and Perth Children’s Hospital. This practical and interactive workshop is open to doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and allied health members and will provide an overview of asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis and chronic wet cough/bronchiectasis.   • Mindfulness Based Compassion Training for Health Professionals – 6 Week Online Program

    This is a 6 week online program, running from the 15th of April to the 20th of May, on Thursday evenings from 5pm to 6:30pm. Health professionals routinely give compassionate care to patients but can struggle to receive compassion or offer it to self or colleagues. Research suggests health professionals can increase wellbeing when practicing self-compassion, and therefore increase capacity to provide optimal patient care. A recent evaluation by Curtin University also found that participation in this program could decrease levels of anxiety, compassion fatigue and emotional exhaustion.
