DESCRIPTION:Wungening Aboriginal Corporation’s Dabakarn Kadadjiny (slow steady learning) Research-to-Practice Seminar Series is a free online series of presentations from Wungening’s research partners. \nThis project arose from the needs identified by the initial findings from the Walkern Katatdjin (Rainbow Knowledge) project. Findings showed that more work was needed by Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) to provide safe LGBTQA+ care. SUMMARY:Poisoning Prevention in WA: From Hazard to Safety
DESCRIPTION:Unintentional poisoning is one of the leading causes of injuries in WA\, accounting for 179 deaths in 2021. Injury Matters is hosting this hybrid seminar where we will hear from Louise Edwards from the Poisons Information Centre to learn more about poisoning prevention strategies to enable health professionals to promote and support effective health education. The seminar will also: \n\nDescribe the mechanism of poisoning that is included in data collection.\nDescribe the types of substances that commonly cause poisoning and identify the populations at the highest risk for poisoning incidents in Western Australia.\nExplain the role and services provided by the Poisons Information Centre in Western Australia\, including how to access their services.\nIdentify best practices and effective strategies for preventing poisoning incidents\, including storage and disposal of hazardous substances\, safe medication use\, and the promotion of poison prevention education.\nDiscuss the importance of collaboration between health professionals\, community organisations\, and other stakeholders in developing and implementing effective poisoning prevention programs in Western Australia.\n\nThis seminar training is suitable for alcohol and other drug health professionals\, mental health workers\, nurses\, pharmacists\, public health advocates\, health promotion professionals\, health services\, and local government. \nWhen: 10.00am-11.00am\, 23 June 2023 \nWhere: Online via Teams OR in person at 36 Dodd Street\, Wembley WA \nRegister your interest on our website.
