DESCRIPTION:The next Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mental Health First Aid Training will be taking place on the 23rd and 24th May 2023 held at the Karratha Health Hub. \nThis two-day training is open to community members and health service providers that work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This course teaches you how to assist an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander adult who is developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. \nWhen:             23-24 May 2023 \nWhere:            Karratha Health Hub\, Karratha City Shopping Centre (Next to Pharmacy Help & opposite Red Dot) \nTime:              8.45am – 4.15pm (both days) \nCost:               $100.00 per person (Includes training manual). SUMMARY:Whisper No More Training - Karratha
DESCRIPTION:This workshop aims to encourage conversations and build greater understanding of what matters to Aboriginal people when they have cancer. The training is aimed at all health professionals\, health educators\, local organisations and community members in Karratha\, WA. \nThe workshop incorporates the Whisper No More training package developed by the WA Centre for Rural Health. It aims to: \n\nincrease awareness and understanding of the specific needs of Aboriginal people with cancer\ndevelop participants’ skills as educators as Aboriginal people are frequently called upon for a variety of roles in education (e.g.\, by family\, patients and professional colleagues)\nfacilitate networks between health professionals and cancer support staff.\n\nThe workshop will cover: \n\nsymptoms and diagnosis\ndelays in diagnosis\nresponse to diagnosis\ntreatment\nliving with a cancer diagnosis\nend-of-life care wishes.\n\nTime: 9am to 4pm (AWST) \nCost: Free. Registration is essential as there are limited spaces. \nMorning tea\, lunch and afternoon tea will be provided.

SUMMARY:Safe and Respectful Pilbara Youth Event
DESCRIPTION:In conjunction with WA Cricket\, the WA Centre for Rural Health invites community members between the ages of 12-25 years to our Safe and Respectful Pilbara Youth Event. \nThe event will be run in two sessions: \nSession one: 2.30pm – 3.15pm\nCricket Clinic – all youth aged 12-25 years welcome to attend. \nSession two: 3:15pm – 5:00 pm\nFollowing the clinic\, Adam Cockie from WA Cricket will conduct a presentation\, followed by a consultation led by WA Centre for Rural Health regarding respectful relationships. Youth aged 16+ are welcome to attend. \nNote: Parental consent is required for those under 18 years. \nBio’s\nAdam Cockie\nAdam is a Whadjuk Noongar man who grew up in the northern suburbs. He has a long history as a football player and spent time playing for the West Coast Eagles in 2009-10. \nIn his career\, his passion lies in and around the Aboriginal participation and engagement space. Currently working at WA Cricket as the Aboriginal Project Officer\, Adam works through metro\, regional and remote communities of Western Australia. \nBefore WA Cricket\, Adam was at the WA Football Commission working as a Diversity Community Officer in the north metro with multicultural and aboriginal communities engaging and building football. \nChris Secker\nCurrent Cricket Manager of the North West\, working for the Western Australian Cricket Association. \nLimited tickets available\, please register to secure your place.\nA light afternoon tea and refreshments lunch will be provided for the attendees to session two.
