DESCRIPTION:Our guest presenter is Prof Juli Coffin\, Yawardani Jan-ga\, Broome W.A. speaking about Yawardani Jan-ga – equine assisted learning for Aboriginal young people.  Followed by a patient case for discussion by the group. \nPresenter profile: Professor Coffin is a proud Aboriginal woman\, with traditional ties to her grandparents Nyangumarta country in the Pilbara region. A mother of three and multiple Australian representative at water polo\, with a passion for advocacy and the betterment of outcomes for Aboriginal young people and communities. She is recognised as a prominent Aboriginal researcher\, with expertise in cultural security\, education and research across a diverse range of settings including chronic diseases\, community development\, health promotion and Equine Psychotherapy. \nEducational attainments include the Vice Chancellors medal for research excellence at the culmination of Coffins PhD. Professor Coffin has been awarded numerous competitive grants spanning her career with the most recently awarded in 2020 included from Heathway and the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). Currently at Murdoch University\, Ngangk Yira Institute for Change\, where she holds the position of Ellison Professor and Head\, Social & Emotional Wellbeing of Aboriginal Young People\, Professor Coffin is strengthening evidence of culturally secure social and emotional well-being offerings in the Kimberley and upscaling with impact. \nThe Yawardani Jan-ga Equine Assisted Learning research program\, designed by Professor Coffin\, is the first of its kind in the Kimberley\, in Australia and the world. Recently\, Professor Coffin has been recognised as a recipient of the prestigious Ministers Award and Yawardani Jan-ga program receiving the Youth Focus for Change Award in 2021 WA Mental Health Awards. Since the programs inception it has engaged over 2000 Aboriginal young people and over 50 stakeholders and community organisations. DESCRIPTION:Description\nSuicide has a devastating impact on families\, friends and whole\ncommunities. Pharmacists\, due to their role and their accessibility\nin the community\, have the potential to play a key role in\nrecognising the signs and symptoms of suicide\, restricting means\nand keeping the person safe until support is available.\nThis Suicide Prevention Training for Pharmacists is an interactive\,\ncased based workshop enabling peer discussion alongside the\ndevelopment of practical skills to implement.\nThis training aims to increase pharmacists’ skills and confidence in:\n• Recognising signs warranting further exploration for suicidality;\n• Talking with someone who may display suicidal signs and symptoms;\n• Understanding of the various referral options. \nLearning Outcomes\nThe proposed learning objectives for the session are that at the end\nof the session participants will be able to:\n• Recognise the prevalence of suicide in the context of pharmacy\n• Identify risk factors and warning sign of someone that may have\nsuicidal thoughts\n• Prepare for a conversation with someone who may display suicidal\nsigns and symptoms \nTopic 1: Prevalence of Suicide\nTopic 2: Risk factors\, warning sign and symptoms\nTopic 3: Having conversations about -suicide\nTopic 4: Support and resources \nAccreditation\nAccreditation number: CX22054.\nThis activity has been accredited for 2.5 hours of Group 1 CPD (or\n2.5 CPD credits)\, suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s\nCPD plan\, which can be converted 2.5 hours of Group 2 CPD (5 CPD\ncredits) upon successful completion of relevant assessment\nactivities. \nWAPHA – SPTP online – 07.09.24

DESCRIPTION:ECHO programs offer free interactive online training bringing health professionals and primary care together to share knowledge\, ideas\, and experiences\, fostering a friendly supportive environment.
