SUMMARY:Hedland Says No to Family Violence Event
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to the 2022 Hedland Says No to Family Violence march to send a message that domestic and family violence will not be tolerated in our community. \nMarch in support of Domestic Violence Prevention Month\, on the day of the candlelight vigil for lives lost to domestic and family violence. Following the march\, hear from guest speakers and enjoy a barbecue while meeting and interacting with stall holders. \nWe want kids to have positive experiences\, healthy relationships and opportunities to learn. We want them to respect others\, and respect themselves. \nNot all disrespect to women results in violence. But all violence against women starts with disrespectful behaviour. \nLet’s bring up respect at every age and every stage. Domestic and family violence does not discriminate and impacts all backgrounds.

SUMMARY:An interdisciplinary approach to perinatal anxiety and depression
DESCRIPTION:Register now to join Dr. Nicole Hall (General Practitioner)\, Dr. Nicole Highet (Psychologist)\, Nia Ellis (Mother with lived experience)\, Rosemarie Vary (Enhanced Maternal Child Health Nurse) for a facilitated discussion of a case study\, facilitated by Prof. Stephen Trumble (General Practitioner).  Attend to hear the panel of experts explore how health professionals can better identify symptoms of perinatal anxiety and depression and provide enhanced care for women at risk. \nDepression and anxiety in the perinatal period is a significant problem for many Australian mothers\, but how easy are these symptoms to identify in practice? SUMMARY:Caring for parents and children after domestic and family violence (online)
DESCRIPTION:A short webinar providing evidence-based knowledge and interventions that focus on repairing the parent-child relationship.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\nBecoming a parent is a stressful developmental phase and can be made significantly harder in the context of domestic and family violence trauma. Women’s agency and confidence as a mother may be directly undermined by her partner through tactics of coercive control\, impacting her experience of motherhood and the quality of mother–child relationships. \n\n\nChildren’s mental health\, wellbeing and the relationships that they depend upon for their development are all impacted by domestic and family violence. \nFamily separations after domestic and family violence are also particularly fraught for women and children and often complicated by ongoing patterns of coercive control and physical dangers\, including fatality risks to women and children. Therefore\, even when protective steps are taken by mothers\, ongoing psychosocial stressors from men’s use of violence may continue to undermine mother–child relational recovery. \nThis short webinar will provide evidence-based knowledge and interventions that focus on supporting the recovery of the parent-child relationship. It is suitable for professionals working alongside mothers and children who are\, or have\, experienced domestic and family violence. \nThis short webinar will cover: \no Trauma and effects on empathy and attachment relationships \no Maladaptive parental coping strategies following domestic and family violence \no Implications for parent-child relationship \no Consequences for child development/behaviour \no Transference and projection by domestic and family violence victim-survivor towards children \no Brief description of research-based interventions and strategies to support the recovery of the parent-child relationship \nThere will be an opportunity for questions and answers. \nHandouts and supporting literature will be provided at the end of the workshop. \nDetails \nOnline Webinar \nDate: Wednesday\, 18th May 2022 \nTime: 9:30am to 11:00am \nCost: $10 \nA link to Microsoft Teams will be emailed to participants upon registration. \nPresented by: Stephanie Rea\, Early Years Consultant\, 360 Family Health \nStephanie has had a 30 year career in nutrition and community health and wellbeing in both WA and the UK. She spent 10 years facilitating birth preparation classes for expectant parents through their journey leading up to the birth of their child and the stages of post natal life with a new baby. SUMMARY:National Palliative Care Week
DESCRIPTION:National Palliative Care Week provides us all with great opportunities to educate people on what palliative care involves and to raise awareness of its benefits\, as well as celebrate the excellent work done every day in our sector. The theme for this year’s week has been announced by Palliative Care Australia as “It’s your right”. This theme aims to raise awareness on the right of all Australians to access high quality palliative care when and where they need it. \nAs in previous years Palliative Care Australia is producing and supplying a range of resources for us all to use at events and activities held during the week or later in the year. This year they have prioritised sustainability by choosing resources that can be used multiple times and/or can be recycled. We have reusable tote bags\, packets of post-it notes\, pens\, packets of seedlings and microfibre lens cloths. \nTo order your resources please click here. \nOrders need to be submitted by Friday 25 March. Please note that while we will endeavour to meet all requested resources\, what we end up supplying to you will reflect the cumulative orders and availability of stock. If you have any queries please contact us at info@palliativecarewa.asn.au.

These mental health conditions have significant impact on their employment\, family\, relationships and wellbeing. This online interactive workshop focuses on diagnosis and referral pathways to support the management of emergency service workers. \nGPs often play a central role in the provision of healthcare to communities in the immediate\, acute phase of emergency situations\, and on an ongoing basis for the long-term recovery of individuals and their broader community. \nThis workshop has been designed with a focus on GPs\, to diagnose patients with acute stress disorder\, post-traumatic stress disorder and other comorbidities. This program is excellent for both reviewing skills and knowledge and also up-skilling the varied health professionals who are often the frontline contacts for support from emergency and other workers and their families experiencing symptoms of PTSD. It has been\, for me\, one of the most valuable 3 hours of clinical training I have participated in.” Participant 2nd March 2021\n“This was great course\, especially for a rural based GP. I would strongly recommend all my colleagues to enrol in it.” Participant 11th March 2021\n“This was an excellent course\, very well delivered and relevant to general practice.
