SUMMARY:Telehealth Clinical Skills Program
DESCRIPTION:Designed by doctors for doctors\, the ACRRM Telehealth Clinical Skills Program aims to provide education and coaching on how best to conduct telehealth consultations in a variety of clinical settings. \nThe program offers an online education module of 4.5 hours CPD which you can do in your own time. It includes practical tips and guidance on how telehealth consultations should be introduced and managed in your practice. Importantly\, the module covers the clinical skills required to assess\, diagnose and manage your patients using phone or video consultations across a variety of different platforms. \nThe program also includes a live online workshop with two ACRRM medical educators experienced in using telehealth in their practice. Cases will be discussed giving you the opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills in this peer group setting. \nThe College is offering 10 dates for the 90-minute workshop and each workshop is limited to 20 people. \nOur telehealth workshops are designed to cater to participants with varying levels of experience. Workshops 4\, 8\, and 9 are specifically tailored to users with a higher level of telehealth experience. These workshops will cover advanced skills and address complex questions\, while the other workshops are intended for those with comparatively less experience and who require more training. We encourage all interested participants to register for the workshop that aligns with your skill level. Each workshop is limited to 20 people\, so make sure to register early to secure your spot. \nYou will need to complete the online education module before attending the workshop. You can commence the online education module immediately and College staff will be in touch with details about the live workshop closer to the date. \nOnce you have successfully completed the online education module and the workshop you will be able to claim 6 hours CPD in total. \nTo register in the program – choose one of the workshops below. SUMMARY:Diagnosis and Treatment of PTSD in Emergency Service Workers
DESCRIPTION:Duration\n3 hrs \n\n\n \n\n\nProgram Outline\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNOTE: All times listed are AEDT/AEST \nGPs often play a central role in the provision of healthcare to communities in the immediate\, acute phase of emergency situations\, and on an ongoing basis for the long-term recovery of individuals and their broader community. \n  \nEmergency Service Workers are one of the high-risk groups for trauma exposure and are more vulnerable to developing mental health problems. These mental health conditions have significant impact on their employment\, family/relationships\, and wellbeing. \n  \nThis workshop has been designed with a focus on GPs\, to diagnose patients with acute stress disorder\, post-traumatic stress disorder and other comorbidities. Evidence based guidelines will be used as the foundation to appropriately diagnose and identify treatment pathways including recommended referrals\, trauma focused psychological therapy and psychological first aid to help support their management of emergency service workers. The training may also be relevant to other health professionals. \n  \nThis training aims to increase participants’ skills and confidence to: \n1.   Understand the relationship between traumatic events and the development of mental health conditions \n2.   Identify evidence-based treatment and referral pathways for a patient impacted by trauma \n3.   Recommend evidence-based resources\, including e-Mental Health\, for family/kinship groups impacted by trauma \nTESTIMONIALS \n\n“The experience of trauma in our community has been very widespread and deeply felt over the past 12 or so months\, with the 2019-2020 summer bushfires and then the COVID pandemic. This program is excellent for both reviewing skills and knowledge and also up-skilling the varied health professionals who are often the frontline contacts for support from emergency and other workers and their families experiencing symptoms of PTSD. It has been\, for me\, one of the most valuable 3 hours of clinical training I have participated in.” Participant 2nd March 2021\n“This was great course\, especially for a rural based GP. I would strongly recommend all my colleagues to enrol in it.” Participant 11th March 2021\n“This was an excellent course\, very well delivered and relevant to general practice. It is especially relevant in the present times of floods\, fires and COVID!” Participant 25th March 2021\n\nFUNDING FOR THIS PROGRAM \nThe Grant Program for Emergency Services Workers trauma Care\, including PTSD support services\, is funded by the Australian Government’s Department of Home Affairs. \nhttps://minister.homeaffairs.gov.au/davidlittleproud/Pages/mental-health-grants-support-emergency-services-workers.aspx \nSELF-CARE NOTE \nThis workshop discusses PTSD and trauma. We ask you to take care of your mental health and wellbeing when deciding to attend this workshop. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nAccreditation\n\n\n\n\n\n\n• 3 CPD hours incl. 2.5 hrs Education Activity & .5 hrs Reviewing Performance (RACGP and ACRRM) \n• Mental Health CPD (GPMHSC) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nSuitable for\n\nGP Registrars\, GPs \n\n\n\n \n\n\nTopics Covered\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1.      Understanding the context of Emergency Service Workers \n2.      Diagnosing PTSD \n3.      Your role \n4.      Self-care for practitioners \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nLearning Objectives\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1.      Recognise responses to trauma in emergency service workers\, their families and kinship groups \n2.      Identify validated screening and assessment tools for common mental health conditions related to trauma \n3.      Apply evidence-based treatment/management plan for a patient impacted by trauma \n4.      Identify a range of appropriate referral pathways and collaborative care options \n5.      Identify and use self-care strategies and resources to manage their own mental health and wellbeing \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
