DESCRIPTION:Our guest presenter is Prof Juli Coffin\, Yawardani Jan-ga\, Broome W.A. speaking about Yawardani Jan-ga – equine assisted learning for Aboriginal young people.  Followed by a patient case for discussion by the group. \nPresenter profile: Professor Coffin is a proud Aboriginal woman\, with traditional ties to her grandparents Nyangumarta country in the Pilbara region. A mother of three and multiple Australian representative at water polo\, with a passion for advocacy and the betterment of outcomes for Aboriginal young people and communities. She is recognised as a prominent Aboriginal researcher\, with expertise in cultural security\, education and research across a diverse range of settings including chronic diseases\, community development\, health promotion and Equine Psychotherapy. \nEducational attainments include the Vice Chancellors medal for research excellence at the culmination of Coffins PhD. Professor Coffin has been awarded numerous competitive grants spanning her career with the most recently awarded in 2020 included from Heathway and the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). Currently at Murdoch University\, Ngangk Yira Institute for Change\, where she holds the position of Ellison Professor and Head\, Social & Emotional Wellbeing of Aboriginal Young People\, Professor Coffin is strengthening evidence of culturally secure social and emotional well-being offerings in the Kimberley and upscaling with impact. \nThe Yawardani Jan-ga Equine Assisted Learning research program\, designed by Professor Coffin\, is the first of its kind in the Kimberley\, in Australia and the world. Recently\, Professor Coffin has been recognised as a recipient of the prestigious Ministers Award and Yawardani Jan-ga program receiving the Youth Focus for Change Award in 2021 WA Mental Health Awards. Since the programs inception it has engaged over 2000 Aboriginal young people and over 50 stakeholders and community organisations. DESCRIPTION:Presented by: Joanne Kostopoulos\, North Metropolitan Health Service. \nDate: Tuesday\, 27 August 2024 | 10.00am – 12.00pm \nTarget audience: Human service providers working with people experiencing alcohol and other drug (AOD) and mental health issues. \nThis webinar will place Youth FDV within the broader context and highlight the complexity and duality of young people as both victim/ survivors and perpetrators. We will discuss language and definitions around the topic of youth FDV and consider current statistics around victimisation and those who use abusive and violent behaviour.\nAdolescent violence in the home (AVITH)\, dating violence\, harmful sexual behaviour and the role of pornography in perpetuating violence in the youth population will be discussed. Assessment\, interventions\, and best practice frameworks will be explored for practice guidance with new understandings. DESCRIPTION:With an aging population and rising incidence of diabetes\, the huge burden of lower limb\nwounds on patient quality of life and health-care systems continues to grow.1\,2 What can\nclinicians do to help reduce the burden of common lower leg wounds\, such as venous leg\nulcers\, arterial ulcers and diabetic foot ulcers? How can you gain confidence in the identification\nand treatment of the common causes of lower leg wounds? \nYou are invited to join us for an interactive educational webinar with Donna Larsen (nee Angel)\,\nwhere she will discuss how to assess\, plan\, treat\, monitor and refer common types of lower\nlimb wounds. She is also Board member of the International Wound Infection Institute. She was awarded as a Life\nMember of Wounds Australia for her contribution to the organization. Donna is part of the High-Risk Foot Unit at RPH and\nhas a strong interest in improving the health of indigenous people. Her other main interest is wound infection. \nwebinar
